The Wicked Witch

Yet another project for school. In this assignment we were charged with the task of designing the concepts around a videogame, based on the story of Snow White.

Of course, it was not to be a rip off, but certain elements from Snow White (and other fairytales) had to be included:

- The presence of Evil
- The Hero
- The hero's Helper (in Snow White's case, the dwarfes - in my case, the troll)
- The Betrayer (in Snow White it's the hunter who's supposed to kill her. This one was optional, so I don't have any artwork for him)

Of course, the whole purpose was to design concept art, and this is my concept art of the Witch...

I've always had a fondness for evil... I mean, I cried when Darth Vader died. I loved the absolute power of the Emperor. I fell in love with Maleficent...

Bearing that in mind I wanted to create a witch who's very presence would be awe-inspirering. Of course, Maleficent is the very essence of such a being. So I tried very hard creating a witch with a similar effect, but making her mine, and not too obviously inspired.

I feel that I have achieved that goal, though it wasn't easy.

Obvious inspiration here would be Jadis of Narnina, Maleficent of Sleeping Beauty, and Nerfertiti of Egypt... There are also some less than obvious inspirations, like the Pale Man of Pan's Labyrinth, and the Dolems of RahXephon. Not being able to see the eyes of a character makes them more scary, I think.

I've made her masculin as well, due to her power. No man will ever be able to beat her me tinks.

And no, Pyramid Head was never an inspiration. I've never owned a PlayStation and never played a Silent Hill game. I was inspired by an Egyptian queen, not a silly zombie. ;)
